Professor Mansfield was interviewed by Ms. Wolf about his book Manliness, published by Yale University Press. He explained that the book was his answer to the question, “What is manliness?” Using historical, philosophical, and political examples, he traced the evolution of the word’s definition from ancient times to its meaning in today’s gender-neutral society. He explored its application to politics. He was interviewed by author Naomi Wolf, who also has written books on gender and society including, Promiscuities: The Secret Struggle for Womanhood; The Treehouse: Eccentric Wisdom from My Father on How to Live, Love, and See; and The Beauty Myth: How Images of Beauty Are Used Against Women.
