Summary: Jacques Barzun was born in France in 1907 and emigrated to the United States in 1920. He was a history professor at Columbia University and, later, Dean of Faculties and Provost. He is the author of more than thirty books. The most recent is From Dawn to Decadence: 500 Years of Western Cultural Life, 1500 to the Present. He talked about his life and work and responded to telephone calls and electronic mail from viewers.
